Job Description:

Join the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) as a GIS Technician, Information Systems Specialist 4, in our Data Management and Production Services (DMAPS) division. This position will support the GIS unit within DMAPS by creating and maintaining geospatial datasets, producing high-quality print and web maps, and assisting with spatial content creation. The role also supports strategic geospatial initiatives through strong documentation, accurate metadata, and adherence to cartographic standards.

A day in the life. As the new GIS Technician you will:

  • Maintain and update geospatial datasets that support agency priorities.
  • Create maps and visualizations that clearly communicate land use and planning information.
  • Assist with building and updating web maps, and other content for internal and public use.
  • Ensure data accuracy by reviewing metadata and supporting data documentation.
  • Follow cartographic standards to produce consistent, high-quality map products.
  • Collaborate with GIS staff and planners to support spatial analysis needs.
  • Help organize and catalog GIS content for improved usability and access.
  • Contribute to statewide geospatial initiatives and participate in team planning sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of professional experience in: Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

OR

An Associate’s degree or higher in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

OR

Completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in a related field; AND one (1) years of professional experience in: Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

We’re Also Looking for:

  • Experience working with Esri tools such as ArcGIS pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Demonstrated ability to create high-quality maps using cartographic best practices.
  • Familiarity with maintaining and editing geospatial data, including metadata standards.
  • Experience building or supporting web maps, web mapping applications, and other ArcGIS content like story maps.
  • Ability to communicate technical GIS concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail when documenting processes and managing data.
  • Ability to follow established procedures while adapting to evolving needs.
  • Demonstrated interest in land use, planning, or environmental GIS applications.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is a PERS participating member, they will have the base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS. Successful candidates who are not yet a PERS participating member, will receive the 6.95% pay increase and begin the 6% employee contribution upon participating in PERS. DLCD employees are eligible for step increases on an annual basis, up to the top of the classification salary range.
