Job Description:

The Oregon State Police in Central Point, Oregon is hiring for one (1) Full-Time, Permanent Automotive Technician 2 position.

Summary of Job Duties:

In this position, you will plan schedule, perform, and monitor day-to-day maintenance and repair for OSP vehicles assigned within your geographical area of responsibility, as assigned by Fleet Management or BSD management team. Vehicles must be maintained and monitored for safe use in adverse and extreme conditions at all times wile in service (extreme speeds, extreme braking, adverse weather). You will need to possess a journey level knowledge of electronic, electrical and mechanical theory and practice to preform de-installation when called upon, journey level installation, maintenance, and repair of emergency vehicle radio, video, visual/audio communications systems and vehicle safety equipment. Your work is typically performed at remote sites throughout the state but may also be called upon to assist with workload at the Headquarters facility in Salem, or other agency offices outside of your regularly assigned area.

As an Automotive Technician you will need to be vigilant in the performance and monitoring of repairs and maintenance to ensure quality work is performed.

Minimum Qualifications/Eligibility Requirements:

Four years of automotive and/or heavy equipment repair experience;

OR

A combination of relevant experience and automotive vocational/technical training sufficient for successful performance in the job.

The following certifications are desired qualifications. Not having these certifications will not eliminate you from consideration.

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician certifications in Automobile/Light Truck and/or Medium-Heavy Truck.

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and/or Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Certifications in High Energy Vehicles (HEV)/ Hybrid/Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV).

Preferred Skills:

  • Skill in using specialized diagnostic equipment to identify operating errors.

  • Skill in inspecting malfunctioning equipment and determining a plan for repair, modification, or replacement.

  • Skill in repairing automotive and equipment systems using the appropriate tools.

  • Skill in completing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

Special Qualifications:

  • Maintain a valid-unrestricted Oregon State Driver’s License.

  • May be required to participate in State sponsored training to become a SPOTS card (Department credit card) holder for assigned office. Must meet criteria and attend necessary training.

  • Ability to learn and work with zero emission vehicle, this includes working around high voltage.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Forklift Operator Certification.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain ASE Master Mechanic Certification.
