About this position:
The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is located in District 62/Unit 540 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 1. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Mobile Equipment Operator 1 is required to have a Class “D” Chauffeurs License before making permanent.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
- Operate heavy equipment as required to support maintenance and construction activities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including hauling materials and removing debris, litter, and animal carcasses from interstate and state-maintained highways within District 62.
- Utilize handheld equipment for general landscaping duties; operate chainsaws and pole saws to trim trees and remove hazardous or overhanging limbs near roadways, bridges, ramps, and guardrails.
- Conduct basic repair and construction work such as drain and ditch cleaning, pothole patching, traffic flagging, and loading/unloading materials and equipment.
- Perform minor equipment repairs and preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer guidelines to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Support emergency and disaster response operations and perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Career Progression: This Position may be filled as a MEO 1, MEO 2, or MEO 1/Heavy
Compensation:- MEO-1 is $16.06 /hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
- MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
- MEO-1/HEAVY: is $21.05/hourly.
