This position is open, ONLY to permanent LDWF Enforcement Agents. This position is located within the Communications Section.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology.
Wildlife Agents patrol public/private land and waters, including federal waters, using a variety of specialized equipment while enforcing laws, rules, and regulations to protect and preserve the fish and wildlife resources and the citizens of the state.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service:
Five years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
Possession of a current driver's license.
Applicants may be required to qualify as an ex-officio notary public.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately, and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.Job Specification

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
Supervises communications personnel at Wildlife and Fisheries. Manages personnel activities including scheduling, recommendations for merit increases, performance reviews, and approval of leave requests. Counsels subordinates on work- related problems.
Conducts training in the proper use of the State Enforcement Telecommunication System. Trains new employees in the operations of 700MHz radio, wildlife information network, NCIC, NLETS, and LLETS computer programs, departmental and division policies and procedures. Maintains the integrity of the radio system records database. Serves as the agency Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC).
Coordinates training activities for all Enforcement Communications Section employees and ensures training and cross-training, monitors the progress of new employee training.
Writes a variety of reports, evaluates employees, and personally reviews and approves entry and deletion of NCIC records of Wildlife wanted felons and stolen property.
Approve messages that may be sent state and nationwide. Initiates budget recommendations for the Enforcement Communication Section. Approves dissemination of criminal history records and other sensitive information.
