WILDLIFE AND FISHERIES TECHNICIAN A-C/ ALLIGATOR- LAFAYETTE

This position, Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A-C, is a training series up to the advanced journeyman (complex) level and may include any or all of the duties described below. The incumbent for this position may act as lead worker over lower level technicians(s) and/or other personnel as assigned. The incumbent is responsible for assisting and advising a Wildlife Technician Supervisor or other supervisors in assisting with planning, coordinating, and conducting management/research/restoration on coastal properties; in particular emphasis is on conducting alligator farm releases to the wild, mandatory hide inspections, and collecting harvest data from wild specimens.

Job Duties and Other Information

JOB DUTIES

Some of the duties of the position include the following:

  • Assist with Wildlife Management, Research, Restoration, and Enhancement Projects hunts.
  • Participate extensively as part of a crew to travel to alligator farms statewide to administer the return of the required number of alligators to the wild.
  • Collect and enter detailed scientific data regarding the egg collection and release program. Use a variety of capture methods to collect harvest data and/or tissues for scientific study from live wild alligators, alligator nests/eggs, or alligators taken in the annual fall hunt or from wild alligators captured for life history research projects.
  • Collect and enter detailed scientific data regarding the egg collection and release program.
  • Collect wild alligator harvest data (sex ratios, occurrence of farm released alligators in harvest, size class frequency distribution, etc.) during September season.
  • Prepare activity reports, field data, and equipment usage logs.
  • Prepares various reports, correspondence, time sheets, expense forms, invoices, purchase orders, etc. for work area or projects for which he/she is responsible.
  • Attend meetings, conferences and workshops for work-plan coordination and to obtain/provide continuing education and/or safety training.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

POSITION- SPECIFIC DETAILS:

The incumbent is required to exert frequent periods of heavy muscular or strenuous physical exertion. Examples include lifting of objects over 50 pounds, such as alligators, hides, etc.

This position will be domiciled in Lafayette Parish.

Appointment Type: Job appointment, probational appointment, promotional, or detail to special duty.

Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is advertised as a Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A, B, or C.
