The incumbent serves as assistant to an Engineering Technician DCL and also as a lead worker in training for all traffic monitoring personnel on the use of all traffic monitoring equipment. The incumbent is also responsible for routine certification of traffic monitoring personnel, performing short session vehicle volume and vehicle classification monitoring.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Eighteen semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Assists Engineering Technician DCL with planning, organizing, and executing on monthly basis work schedule for the routine maintenance of 64 permanent traffic monitoring sites statewide and responds to equipment failures of the permanent traffic monitoring sites on demand and in a timely fashion to minimize loss of continuity in the data collected.
  • Takes the lead in quality control testing process for the maintenance of all short session traffic monitoring equipment including documentation.
  • Takes the lead in the training of all traffic monitoring personnel in the use of vehicle volume and vehicle classification traffic monitoring equipment.
  • Participates in site selection and layout of permanent traffic monitoring sites statewide with particular attention to the sites in urban areas with high traffic volume and multiple lane condition.
  • Participates in the evaluation and shakedown testing of all new monitoring equipment, in the routine calibration and testing processes for the vehicle weigh-in-motion traffic monitoring equipment and in the traffic monitoring equipment used in permanent site selections.

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty
Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of $2.00 per hour for all hours worked. Premium pay is subject to applicable rules and may change based on assignment, funding, or policy.
