About this position:
The primary function of this position is to operate a lowboy trailer to transport heavy loads and large equipment in support of road and bridge construction and maintenance activities. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. This position is located in District 61/Unit 720 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 2.

A valid Louisiana Class "A" CDL is required prior to being appointed to this position.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
Operates a lowboy truck and trailer with a hauling capacity of 100,000 pounds or greater to transport heavy loads and equipment in support of road and bridge construction, maintenance, and inspection activities.
Operates a variety of heavy equipment used in routine maintenance functions, including tandem dump trucks, excavators, front-end loaders, backhoes, bucket trucks, winch trucks, man lifts with up to a 135-foot boom, skid steer loaders, concrete breakers, and forklifts.
Performs maintenance tasks such as repairing or replacing culverts, repairing guardrails, cutting trees, and completing related activities using small tools and equipment.
Performs preventative maintenance and cleaning of assigned equipment to minimize downtime, extend service life, and ensure safe operation.
Assists with the mobilization and placement of signs and traffic control devices in accordance with Department standards and flagging traffic through work zones as needed. The incumbent may perform other daily operational tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
In the absence of a Foreman, the incumbent may assume responsibility for supervising a crew during daily work activities.
This position may require the performance of other duties as necessary, including emergency or disaster support activities.
