About this position:
The overall function of this position is managing a District Construction Unit, such as directing and supervising highway and bridge construction, survey activities, contract administration, quality assurance, material management and associated functions of construction unit including supervising employees in the Project Engineer's Office, engaged in construction work with DOTD. This position reports directly to the Engineer 7/District Area Engineer.
Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
Two years of licensed engineering experience; or
Six years of professional engineering experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.
A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.
There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
NOTES:
Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience.
Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
- Supervises and trains a staff of engineers and engineering technicians by planning, directing and coordinating all engineering activities for a construction unit.
- Makes decisions to resolve problems with all of these issues.
- Responsible for managing and staffing construction projects for both day and night projects. Some of these projects are worked on 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.
- Consults with contractors daily on issues such as project progress, plan changes, phasing of work and traffic control.
- Interacts with private citizens, elected and public officials to resolve conflicts and complaints concerning rights-of-way, construction, and traffic problems.
