The overall function of this position is to have knowledge and experience to skillfully operate and maintain assigned heavy equipment owned or operated by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development during Maintenance Operations. This position is located in District 05/Unit 070 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Equipment Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in mobile equipment operations.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Operates lowboy which include a variety of tractor-trailer combinations.
  • Operates the heavy equipment as needed such as asphalt distributor (truck mounted), backhoes, frontend loaders, motor graders, etc.
  • Perform duties as directed, such as shoveling asphalt, digging footings for setting concrete forms, placing traffic control devices, delivering, loading and unloading materials and/or equipment, flagging traffic, operating power and/or hand tools, etc.
  • Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator’s manual and manufacturer’s recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.
  • May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment

Compensation: Starting hourly rate is $22.52/hr and the maximum is $40.53.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:45 am - 4:15 pm, Monday-Friday
