The overall function of this position is to assist Engineer 6 in the daily operations of a District Construction Office. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with or without minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The duties include serving as lead worker for all clerical and contract administration documentation duties within the Project Engineer’s construction office.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Eighteen semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.

Job Duties and Other Information

JOB DUTIES:

  • Serves as an office manager in the Project Engineer's Office by acting as a lead worker over technicians engaged in the data entry, review, and processing of engineering documents, forms, reports, field notes, etc.
  • Works independently with broad supervision from the Project Engineer. Experience and knowledge of construction methods and procedures are essential.
  • Responsible for the compiling of information for partial estimates, which includes working up computations for pay quantities, checking documentation in field books, preparing material memorandums, verification of haul ticket quantities and stockpile material documentation and all other for correspondence to be submitted on a monthly basis for contractor's pay.
  • Responsible for compiling and entering data into the computer for partial and final pay estimates, weekly project updates, payrolls, change orders, and other correspondence as needed to maintain a continuous flow of active projects.
  • Responsible for the computing of areas and quantities with reference to construction plans and specifications for compliance with final pay quantities and/or change orders and preparing for submission to construction section. Change order compilation includes change order work sheet and all necessary attachments.
  • Responsible for the preparation of sampling plans to be submitted with construction projects.
  • Compiles reports for initial and final 2059s summary of test results for submission to District Lab.

Appointment Type: Promotional, only open to current permanent classified employees of DOTD.

Compensation: $24.04 hourly
