- The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. The Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant serves as a first-line supervisor overseeing sworn enforcement personnel assigned to a district or investigative unit, providing leadership and operational guidance in the enforcement of all laws, rules, and regulations under the authority of the department and commission. Additionally, the role includes supervising the collection of evidence, preparation of warrants, and execution of arrests, as well as developing and coordinating training programs for enforcement personnel. The position also ensures accurate reporting and the maintenance of investigative documentation in compliance with accreditation and departmental standards. Minimum Qualifications
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service:
Five years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
Possession of a current driver's license.
Applicants may be required to qualify as an ex-officio notary public.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately, and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.Job Specification

Job Duties:
- Serves as the first-line supervisor for sworn enforcement personnel assigned to the District and the enforcement division.
- Supervises and assists sworn personnel engaged in the investigation and enforcement of all laws, rules, and regulations as delegated to the department and commission.
- Temporarily performs duties as Regional Commander in the absence of the Wildlife Enforcement Captain.
- Provides all personnel management activities, including but not limited to: scheduling, recommendations for promotions or hirings, performance reviews, and approval of leave requests.
- Counsels subordinates regarding work-related problems or performance issues.
- Analyzes statistical data in order to design, prepares and implements work schedules and assigns work for personnel in assigned unit providing direction and control.
- Conducts visual inspections of assigned personnel in the performance of their duties and ensures compliance and proper execution of enforcement procedures and compliance with Division and Department directives as issued.
- Reviews and ensures accuracy of all field-generated reports on law enforcement activities.
- Notarizes summons issued by Field Agents.
- Supervises the secure processing of evidence.
- Performs the duties of a Field Supervisor by serving as an on-scene coordinator on technical problems related to enforcement, including evidence seizure and handling, and serious boating incidents.
