This position is located in District 03 of the Department of Transportation and development and reports directly to Highway Foreman 2. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment (e.g., backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, excavators, pavers, and striping machines) to support road construction and maintenance activities.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as shoveling asphalt, digging footings, setting forms, and loading/unloading materials and equipment.
- Assist with roadway and infrastructure work, including installing guardrails, fencing, drainage structures, and related components.
- Set up and maintain traffic control, including flagging operations, to ensure safe work zones.
- Inspect equipment before use and perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and cleaning to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Complete required documentation (e.g., daily work reports, equipment usage, and inventory records) and assist with training lower-level staff as needed.
- Respond to emergency call-outs in all weather conditions, including debris removal, roadway drainage, and support during accidents or disaster events.

Career Progression: This Position may be filled as a MEO 1, MEO 2, or MEO 1/Heavy
Compensation: Below is the starting hourly rate for each level and additional compensation information for the MEO 1 and MEO 2 levels:- MEO-1 $16.06 /hourly - receives Premium Pay of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase granted upon attainment of permanent status.
- MEO-2 $17.18/hourly - receives Premium Pay of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase granted upon attainment of permanent status.
- MEO-1/HEAVY $21.05/hourly
