This position is located in the Equipment Unit of the DOTD Headquarters Maintenance Division and reports to the Administrative Program Manager 2. The incumbent serves as the statewide equipment technician and assists in developing equipment specifications used in the procurement and operation of DOTD equipment. The position requires knowledge of roadway equipment and its applications in maintaining Louisiana’s highway system, which includes a fleet of over 6,000 pieces of equipment.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
Supports DOTD equipment needs by developing specifications for statewide purchases. Communicates with districts, sections, and vendors to determine user needs and research industry standards. Enters specifications into LaGov and creates shopping carts for procurement.
Develops technical specifications for the DOTD Buyback Program, a $24 million equipment initiative, by communicating with vendors and districts to identify user needs. Ensures familiarity with both industry trends and DOTD requirements, assists with Buyback pre-bid conferences, inputs specifications into LaGov, and serves as backup to the Administrative Program Manager 2 in managing the program..
Monitors and analyzes equipment history to support DOTD fleet management and ensure maximum return on investment. Assists with equipment inspections for abuse, damage, or mechanical issues. Develops specifications for special equipment not commercially available, coordinating with districts, sections, and vendors to meet user needs.

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job AppointmentCareer Progression: This position may be filled as a as Engineer Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Compensation: Below is the starting hourly rate and premium pay amount for each level.
Engineer Technician 1 - 1,120.00/Biweekly
Engineer Technician 2 - 1,282.40/Biweekly
Engineer Technician 3 - 1,468.00/Biweekly
Engineer Technician 4 - 1,680.00/Biweekly
