Division: Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity/SHIP

The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking an Insurance Technician 1/2 to join the Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity/SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) Division. This division plays an important role in assisting Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers, and the public by providing unbiased information, counseling, and outreach related to Medicare coverage and benefits. In this position, you’ll research Medicare policies and federal regulations, respond to inquiries from beneficiaries and industry representatives, and support outreach and educational efforts that help Louisiana seniors make informed healthcare coverage decisions. Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in administrative services.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for six months of the required experience.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

As an Insurance Technician 1/2 in the Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity/SHIP Division, you will/may:

  • Provide research, general advice, and interpretation of Medicare laws and federal regulations to Medicare beneficiaries and industry representatives.
  • Communicate with Medicare beneficiaries through phone, email, and mail to provide accurate and unbiased information regarding Medicare benefits and coverage options.
  • Utilize available research tools and Medicare resources to provide guidance and assistance to beneficiaries and insurance industry representatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations and guidance issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Administration for Community Living (ACL) to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.
  • Document client contacts and outreach activities by entering data into the SHIP Tracking and Reporting System (STARS) to support federal reporting and program performance measures.
  • Respond to requests for Medicare-related publications received through phone calls and online SHIP services.
  • Prepare written correspondence using Microsoft Word and other office software as needed.
  • Assist with preparation of equipment and materials for scheduled outreach and educational events.
  • Maintain office supplies and notify supervisors when additional materials need to be ordered.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as either an Insurance Technician 1 or Insurance Technician 2, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Location: Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity/SHIP Division

Compensation: The salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience within the established pay range.
