This highly responsible, professional engineering position which utilizes technical skills and the application of scientific principles in the prevention and control of communicable disease transmission related primarily to drinking water and domestic wastewater. Many tasks are of a highly specialized, complex, technical nature requiring extensive training and experience that in many instances must be performed in the absence of supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Analyze/Implement environmental activities needed within the complete scope of public health engineering activities for the Central Louisiana Region.
  • Conducts surveys and evaluations of water and wastewater facilities using specialized public health engineering expertise to ensure protection of the public health and compliance with Federal and State Laws and regulations.
  • Performs the review and approval of highly technical engineering plans and specifications for proposed water and wastewater facilities submitted by engineers and architects.
  • Provides functional supervision and technical assistance to consulting engineers, architects, sanitarians, water and wastewater operators, and public and elected officials regarding water and wastewater concerns.
  • Assists with the collection of and monitors the interpretation of chemical and bacteriological analytical data, the evaluation of public health risks associated with the analysis results, and the recommendations of treatment practices or processes to achieve compliance with relevant Safe Drinking Water Rules.
  • Coordinates/performs regional public health engineering responses to natural and man-made emergencies, such as floods, hurricanes, freezes, back-siphonage events involving chemical contaminants, acts of terrorism, outbreaks of communicable diseases, etc..

Compensation: For the Engineer Intern 1 – Engineer 5, these positions have a Special Entrance Rate (SER) starting salary of:

Engineer Intern 1 - $26.44 hourly /$2,115.20 bi-weekly

Engineer Intern 2 - $28.29 hourly /$2,263.20 bi-weekly

Engineer 3 – $33.39 hourly /$2,671.20 bi-weekly

Engineer 4 - $36.90 hourly / $2,952.00 bi-weekly

Engineer 5 - $39.48 hourly / $3,158.40 bi-weekly
