The overall function of this position is to provide technical expertise in the area of design and plan development for the Pavement Preservation Program, Safety Program, Roadway Flooding Program, Bridge Program, etc. This position is located in District 08/Unit 170 of the Department of Transportation and Development. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times without supervision or with minimal supervision and also, be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

NOTE:
Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

-Have knowledge of current LaDOTD specifications, design guidelines, and design standards.

-Have knowledge of MicroStation or CADD software, and hydraulic software.

-Have knowledge of and be able to proficiently use computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel

-Must be able to proficiently use computer, scanner, and copier.

Appointment Type: Probational/Promotional

Career Progression: This position may be filled as Engineer Intern Applicant or Engineer 1-5, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 7:00AM to 3:30PM.
