About This Position:
The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the DOTD Structured Training Director. This position is primarily responsible for the development, revision, and teaching of construction/lab training courses and associated materials such as performance evaluations for testing procedures and certification testing materials as they relate to the assigned area of responsibility, Asphaltic Concrete. This training must comply with department policies, procedures, specifications, federal regulations and state-of-the-art technology which affect the program areas. The training is designed to maximize employee potential and provide the properly trained personnel crucial to the continued design, construction, and maintenance of the transportation system. The incumbent must understand, interpret, and apply all federal and state guidelines for Quality Control and Quality Assurance for roads and bridges and for safety and traffic control in the maintenance and construction work areas.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR

A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Serve as a liaison between District Training Offices and the Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC), coordinating communication, sharing training updates, and supporting program needs across districts.

  • Assist with the development, revision, and delivery of training courses by gathering information, working with subject matter experts, and creating or updating performance tests, evaluations, procedures, and training materials using current technology.

  • Manage the Asphaltic Concrete and Special Topics Training Programs, providing formal training to support the development of current and future DOTD staff. Monitor training policies and identify program budget, equipment, and resource needs.

  • Deliver classroom, multimedia, and hands-on laboratory training to DOTD and external personnel, including train-the-trainer programs covering construction, maintenance, safety, administration, and traffic operations. Support the implementation of new training programs and courses in district offices in coordination with LTRC program managers.

  • Participate in technical committees, focus groups, and task forces to stay current on policy, specification, and procedure changes, and incorporate updates into training materials. Attend District Training Committee meetings and provide recommendations based on feedback.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and instructor for the DOTD Technical Training Laboratory School as needed, and provide technical support to instructors delivering construction technology coursework through Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC).

Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty
Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of $1.00 per hour for all hours worked. Premium pay is subject to applicable rules and may change based on assignment, funding, or policy.
