This position provides hands-on experience collecting, managing, and maintaining roadway and asset data used for statewide transportation planning, reporting, and decision-making. Training is provided.

About This Job
Engineering Technicians assigned to the Data Collection and Management Systems – System Inventory function support the collection, verification, and maintenance of highway inventory data using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, high-definition video, aerial imagery, and roadway asset software.
This position supports state and federal transportation planning by documenting roadway characteristics and physical features, including pavement attributes, shoulders, intersections, railroad crossings, sidewalks, and other roadway assets.
Work assignments involve a combination of field and office-based duties and may require statewide travel.

- Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance. Job Specification

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
Depending on assignment and experience level, Engineering Technicians may:- Collect and extract highway inventory data using GPS devices and high-definition video
- Record roadway characteristics and physical assets for DOTD inventory databases
- Maintain and update the Transportation Asset Highway Inventory Database (TAHIN)
- Perform Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) on collected data
- Review and modify asset data using roadway characteristics software
- Prepare maps, routes, and documentation for field assignments
- Track and maintain construction project information and records
- Enter data into databases, spreadsheets, or applications
- Assist with emergency or disaster response activities as needed

Career Progression: This position may be filled as Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on qualifications and agency needs
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty
Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of $2.00 per hour for all hours worked. Premium pay is subject to applicable rules and may change based on assignment, funding, or policy.How To Apply:
