This Engineering Design position is mainly responsible for design and construction recommendations for pavement typical sections for the statewide DOTD system. Performs flexible and rigid pavement design analyses for new and rehabilitated pavements and makes recommendations to the Pavement Design Engineer. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing inputs for Life Cycle Costs Analysis (LCCA). This position is also responsible in aiding the geotechnical design engineers in making initial design and construction recommendations for foundations for bridges, retaining walls, sheet piles, roadway embankments, geosynthetic reinforcement systems, earth dams and various pipe bedding requirements for the statewide DOTD system.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

NOTE:

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Performs flexible and rigid pavement design analyses for new and rehabilitated pavements and makes recommendations to the Pavement Design Engineer.

  • Generates required inputs for conducting Life Cycle Costs Analyses (LCCA).

  • Analyses the effect of over-weight truck loads on pavement and embankment structure to prevent early failure due to over-stressing.

  • Designs routine foundations for bridges, retaining walls, geosynthetic reinforcement systems, radio towers, spillways, dams and embankments for the statewide DOTD system.

  • Incorporates into the plans all data received from the District and/or Consultants for Subgrade Soil surveys (Shallow Borings). Ensures all data is represented in tabular or plotted form.

  • Performs dynamic pile analyses and makes recommendations to the Geotechnical Design Engineer on hammer selection, pile driving criteria, pile integrity, and pile capacity. Uses Specialized software (WEAP) to perform Wave Equation analyses on contractor's proposed pile driving system to provide recommendations on hammer selection and construction specification.

  • $2,952.00/biweekly

Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); Job Appointment, or by detail to special duty.
