The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Services has a vacancy.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare.
The Waste Permits Section is responsible for a number of required duties & activities involving the Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, and Recycling Programs. The Environmental Scientist Staff in this section plays an integral role in the Section accomplishing its goals and objectives as it relates to the responsibilities of the Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, and Recycling Programs. This DCL-A position performs work in support of the Waste Tire Management Program (WTMP) which oversees the Waste Tire Management Fund.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus three years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR

A master’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus two years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR

A doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus one year of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing.

Supplemental Qualifications: One year of scientific/technical environmental experience at or above the Environmental Scientist 3
level in regulatory work in waste permitting or waste tire management.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for review and processing of waste tire forms, including Waste Tire Generator Notification Forms.
  • Responsible for review and processing of Single Event Cleanup/Government Tire Sweep Forms, Waste Tire Transporter and Transfer Facility Application Forms, and other forms as assigned.
  • Assists with monthly waste tire processor reports
  • review of data received from the weekly and monthly reports submitted by the processors, generators, and waste tire dealers that have been entered into the waste tire database.
  • Looks for anomalies that may indicate problems or concerns with the activities in the area of waste tires.

Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
  • Environmental Scientist DCLA: $31.38 per hour
