This is a full-time position located at the State Museum in New Orleans, LA.
The Carpenter Foreman is responsible for the supervision and oversight of scheduling, reviewing, installing, repairing, and maintaining all carpentry tasks as related to the Louisiana State Museum system.The Louisiana State Museum’s collections and educational programs stimulate awareness and appreciation of our state’s rich and diverse history and culture.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Four years of experience or training in the carpentry trade.Job Specification

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
The Louisiana State Museum system includes the following: Cabildo, Creole House, Jackson House, Arsenal, Presbytere, Madame John's Legacy, Collection Facility, Lower Pontalba including all commercial and residential spaces, 1850 House, and the Old U.S. Mint all located in New Orleans. Also included are: E.D. White House in Thibodaux, Wedell Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum in Patterson, Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Regional History Museum in Natchitoches, and the Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge.- Participate, assign, inspect, and supervise all repairs, alterations/renovations, installations, and maintenance of all carpentry (wood) related tasks necessary to maintain the buildings in the Louisiana State Museum system.
- Review, evaluate, and prioritize incoming work orders on a daily basis.
- Determines tools and equipment needed to accomplish successful completion of job/projects.
- Supervise and assign duties to Master Carpenters who perform journeyman level carpentry work.
- Advise Facility Assistant Maintenance Manager of any preventative maintenance or repairs, including any emergency repairs, needed throughout the Louisiana Museum System.
- Consults with Curatorial staff in designing, fabricating, and installing upcoming exhibits, casework, etc.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This will be filled as a probational appointment. Current permanent status state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position that will report in-office. This position may be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. This position may be required to travel and/or work overtime.
Location: This position will be located in New Orleans, LA.
