Mission Statement of the Office of State Fire Marshal: To uphold the law and provide for the protection of life and property from the hazards of fire or explosion, to ensure the safety of our citizens in the constructed environment, to provide equal access to disabled individuals and to promote the efficient use of energy in commercial buildings.
This position is located in Area 1- Enforcement, only open to permanent State Fire Marshal employees. Domicile is TBD, but will be based in Area 1. As a State Fire Marshal Lieutenant, the incumbent ensures reports and programs meet performance expectations, oversees program support functions assigned, and provides mentoring and peer review to co-workers and subordinates. Lieutenants also provide leadership in the absence of the State Fire Marshal Captain when needed.

All qualifying options will also require an approved certification at the time of appointment (hire) or promotion:
Five years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
An associate’s degree in any field plus four years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
An associate’s degree in a criminal justice field, a fire service field, a construction field, architecture, or an engineering field plus three years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
A bachelor’s degree in any field plus two years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
A bachelor’s degree in a criminal justice field, a fire service field, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field plus one year of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field.Job Specification

May serve in the following capacities:
*May serve as lead worker, trainer, or mentor over lower-level Deputies.
*Works on special projects as assigned.
*May conduct the most complex inspections and investigations requiring special certifications.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Promotional for permanent State Fire Marshal employees only.
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
Location: The location of this position is To Be Determined.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The bi-weekly rate for this position is as follows:
State Fire Marshal Lieutenant (PS115) - $2,161.60
