About this Job
Mission Statement of the Office of State Fire Marshal: To uphold the law and provide for the protection of life and property from the hazards of fire or explosion, to ensure the safety of our citizens in the constructed environment, to provide equal access to disabled individuals and to promote the efficient use of energy in commercial buildings. This position is located in Enforcement--Area 3 and only open to permanent State Fire Marshal employees. Domicile will be within Area 3 territory.

All qualifying options will also require an approved certification at the time of appointment (hire) or promotion:
Six years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
An associate’s degree in any field plus five years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
An associate’s degree in a criminal justice field, a fire service field, a construction field, architecture, or an engineering field plus four years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
A bachelor’s degree in any field plus three years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
A bachelor’s degree in a criminal justice field, a fire service field, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field plus two years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field.Job Specification

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
- Advises higher level personnel on problems involving the relationship of work units to other broader programs and the impact on such programs; recommends action plans and reports on progress.
- Delegates authority to subordinates and holds them accountable for the accomplishment of work unit goals.
- Supervises inspection and/or investigation activities for an assigned area. Performs quality control functions for an assigned work unit.
- Coordinates and evaluates all problem activities for a work unit and resolves issues. Prepares various reports as required.
- May work on special projects as assigned.
Position Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Promotional - Open to permanent State Fire Marshal employees only
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
Location: This vacancy is located in Area 3.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The bi-weekly rate for this position is as follows:
State Fire Marshal Captain (PS116) - $2,312.80
