The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life.

Minimum Qualifications

Five years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

One year of this experience must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.

Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.


Qualified to be an ex officio notary public.


An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by the State and Federal laws is granted.


NOTE:

This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Conducts visual inspections of assigned personnel in the performance of their duties and ensures compliance and proper execution of enforcement procedures and compliance with Division and Department directives as issued.
  • Reviews and ensures accuracy of all field generate reports on law enforcement activities. Notarizes summons issued by Field Agents.
  • Supervises the secure processing of evidence. Performs the duties of a Field Supervisor by serving as an on-scene coordinator on technical problems related to enforcement, including evidence seizure and handling, and serious boating incidents.
  • Serves as the first-line supervisor for sworn enforcement personnel assigned to a District in and enforcement division.
  • Supervises and assists sworn personnel engaged in the investigation and enforcement of all laws, rules, and regulations as delegated to the department and commission.
  • Temporarily performs duties as Regional Commander in absence of Wildlife Enforcement Captain.
  • Provides all personnel management activities, including but not limited to: scheduling, recommendations for promotions or hirings, performance reviews, and approval of leave requests.
  • Counsels subordinates regarding work-related problems or performance issues. Analyzes statistical data in order to design, prepares and implements work schedules and assigns work for personnel in assigned unit providing direction and control.

Appointment Type: This Promotional opportunity is limited to current permanent status classified employees within the Office of the Secretary, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries only.

Location: This position is located within the Enforcement Division of the Office of the Secretary in Region 2A.
