Job Duties:

• Operates heavy motorized equipment including, but not limited to: dozers, tandem and bobtail dump trucks, loaders skid-steers, backhoes, water trucks, street sweepers, excavators, and other specialized equipment to support a variety of operations under the jurisdiction of the SLFPAE.

• Assists in grass cutting activities when needed or conditions warrant by picking up trash, cutting weeds and brush, and operating tractors equipped for grass cutting on property owned or maintained by the SLFPAE. Assists other personnel within the SLFPAE with floodgate, valves, and relief wells operation and maintenance.

• Performs daily safety and maintenance checks on equipment prior to beginning work. Reports to supervisor any required repairs needed on equipment.

  • Trains less skilled employees in operation and care of equipment. -Cleans equipment as scheduled and/or required.

  • Assists in performing minor repairs or preventative maintenance on equipment.

  • Ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures in operating daily assigned equipment

NOTE: The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East (SLFPA-E) is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the SLFPA-E's mission is to protect the residents of the east-bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard and the east-bank of Orleans from tidal surge, wind-driven water and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane/ Tropical storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required and remain on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
