The Desktop Support Technician works as a member of the Louisiana State University in Shreveport (LSUS) Information Technology Services department and is responsible for assisting our faculty and staff with software and their desktops, printers, scanners and other peripherals in both office and classroom settings throughout the campus.
Founded in 1967, LSUS is one of the LSU family of universities. LSUS has a strong regional presence with both a face-to-face student population and a large online student population. LSUS' IT Services provides all IT functions for the campus in a centralized fashion.
LSUS IT Services work on many different projects, so we are looking for someone with a broad range of skills. You must be capable of working independently at times, but also as part of a small team. You should feel comfortable interfacing with faculty, staff, and students. We are anticipating applicants with a wide range of skills.

This position is a 40 hour per week position working at the physical LSU Shreveport campus and is not remote. This position comes with several benefits, including: Paid Time Off, Tuition Reimbursement after one year and a host of medical, dental, vision, and retirement options.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an IT or a related field.

- 2+ years of experience in IT systems and installation/application support
- Professional etiquette and appearance
- Must be able to work collegially in a small team environment
- Ability to learn about and implement modern technologies quickly and accurately
- Excellent communication skills, including a professional and confident speaking tone
- Ability to efficiently manage time and multiple assignments
- Experience with Windows operating system support
- Experience with remote support
- Experience with switches
- Strong LAN troubleshooting skills
- Recent systems maintenance and end user technical support experience
- Ability to install operating systems, drivers, and applications
- Experience working in a higher education academic computing setting
- Relevant certifications and other indicators of an active pursuance of learning and skill building
- Experience with device management platforms such as Microsoft Intune
- Bachelor's degree in an IT or a related field.

Position Duties
- Assisting with the installation of desktop hardware and software
- Troubleshooting IT equipment
- Providing technical direction to students and employees
- Planning and testing of new systems hardware and software and development of system rollout/implementation strategies
- Serving as technical assistance in getting new computers professionally installed and operational
- Assisting in diagnosing problems whenever equipment does not operate as expected
- Coordinating the maintenance of computers to ensure compatibility and integration with campus strategies
- Documenting anomalies and issues
- Assisting with inventory and documentation
- Assisting with data sanitization of surplus devices
- Maintaining proactive, consistent communication with the management team on systems/projects statuses and issues
- Other duties as assigned by IT Management
