GENERAL OVERVIEW:
This position is located in D 62/ Unit 170 and enables the District Design Section to perform its duties and responsibilities relative to survey work in an effective manner by having a lead worker over the other technicians to ensure that the best possible survey information is collected for roadway plans, drainage plans, drainage complaints, ROW boundaries, etc. This employee has the ability to operate all surveying equipment utilized in the district, record notes that can act as a legal document, communicate with landowners, contractors, traveling public, general public, other Department sections and other state agencies. Position receives direct supervision from the ADA Engineering and Functional supervision from the Surveyor 4. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in an environmental science, engineering or engineering technology, spatial and mapping technology, forestry, ecology, land surveying, land management, or operation and/or maintenance of mobile equipment; OR

Eighteen semester hours in either architecture, cartography, construction, drafting, engineering, GIS, a physical science, or in an industrial or mathematics discipline.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Assist the survey lead worker to perform all duties and responsibilities to perform the survey responsibilities of the Design Section. Assists the survey lead worker in staking traverses, establishing control lines, taking cross sections, shooting topography, probing pipelines, and gathering other field information necessary for the design of drainage projects, highway construction projects, airports, public buildings, bulkheads and boat ramps.
  • Assists the survey lead worker in performing site visits for drainage complaints and driveway permits and providing existing drainage layouts.
  • Field inspection for projects through the “Louisiana Port Construction and Development Priority Program” and “Statewide Flood Control Program”. Assist as needed with the “Louisiana Dam Safety Awareness Program”.
  • Provide Microfilm research for drainage jobs, drainage complaints, and as needed for other projects. Perform computer data entry for surveys.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor, such as, but not limited to emergency operations/disaster support activities
  • The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as to maintain the following licensing and operate the following equipment:
• Valid Louisiana driver's license
• Operate a state-owned vehicle, computer, surveying equipment, etc.
• Perform duties in extreme weather conditions such as rain, cold, or heat

Compensation: LAND TECHNICIAN 4 - $21.00hr / $1680.00 biweekly with an additional premium pay of $2.00 per hour worked.
