POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Serves as Grounds Foreman under the supervision of the Facility Engineer and Senior Advisor. Provide supervision for the mechanical and grounds maintenance personnel at Gillis W. Long Center (GWLC). Responsible for supervising the maintenance of 455 acres of land which are lawns, flower gardens, shrubbery, trees, playgrounds, recreational lakes and ponds, swimming pool, obstacle and ropes course, system of drainage ditches, wastewater disposal plant, outlying pastureland, cemetery and numerous buildings and structures. Supervise the control of work operations and subordinates. Perform operations with general instruction, established policies, and is accountable for quantity and quality of work produced. Must possess the ability to anticipate requirements and make necessary recommendations for the efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned work by subordinates with general work schedules set by supervisory levels. Assists in the scheduling of maintenance and mechanical operation on various types and sizes of mechanical equipment consisting of cranes, earth movers, bulldozers, tractors, mowing machines, road graders, back hoes, emergency electric generators, lawn equipment, tree maintenance equipment, pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer application equipment etc. Administers and directs programs and projects for the operations, maintenance, repairs, construction, alteration and security of grounds and equipment as it applies to Ground/Maintenance Management. Participate in program and policy development for GWLC on matters concerning grounds and mechanical maintenance. Direct the supervision of activities as it relates to grounds and maintenance. Accept and assign all work orders, determine work order priorities and prepare estimates for repair costs. Make recommendations as to whether work will be performed in-house or by contract. Provide follow-up to ensure schedules are implemented. Track work planned, in progress, deferred, and waiting for parts or materials. Initiate appropriate action to conclude projects. Prepare statistical information and reports. Manage pest management programs as it relates to mosquito control and ornamental and turf pests. Perform all supervisory functions to include setting performance standards, evaluating performance of subordinates. handle disciplinary matters, approve leave, training, time absentees. Track and ensure all subordinates receive Louisiana Employee Online (LEO) approved training. Perform other duties as assigned.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:- Must have a valid Driver's License, Social Security Card and Birth Certificate.
- Must be available to report to duty during emergency or disaster situations for extended hours over an extended period of time. Other periodic travel may be required.
- Must meet physical requirements to perform functions of the position.
- Must attend/complete all Louisiana Military Department (LMD) annual training and other training required for the position.
