Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in the preparation and handling of cadavers; OR
Twelve semester hours in a biological, physical, chemical, or agricultural science plus one year of experience in the preparation and handling of cadavers; OR
Possession of an associate's degree in funeral services or mortuary science plus one year of experience in the preparation and handling of cadavers; OR
Certification as a Funeral Director plus one year of experience in the preparation and handling of cadavers.Job Specification

Job Duties and Other Information

- Maintains complete and accurate records of the body donations received, distributed, storage location, embalming dates, harvesting of research/teaching cadaveric specimens, utilization, cremation, and final disposition of all cadaveric specimens.
- Ensures that morgue, teaching laboratory spaces, and crematory are cleaned, sterilized, and stocked with adequate instruments and supplies, replenishing supplies, empties and cleans flesh buckets on all tanks and prepares biohazard boxes for disposal.
- Prepares and maintains the dissecting labs and cadavers for class instruction and maintains the lab between classes and at the end of the semester.
- Ensures proper set up and monitoring of cadaveric specimens during postgraduate education courses as needed.
Maintains cleanliness of cold boxes used for storage of cadavers. - Performs routine capillary, venipuncture, and/or catheterization for testing or embalming purposes.
Performs routine blood sample collection and pathogen screening. - Prepares and embalms of human cadavers.
- Disposes and manages hazardous chemicals related to the processing and embalming of cadavers.
Transports cadavers for use at LSUHSC facilities and affiliated institutions. - Trains lower-level morgue staff members in handling, processing, and cremation of donated bodies.
- Maintains a culture of respect for donors and the donation process from receipt of the donation to final dispensation of the cremains.
- Acts as an ambassador for the Bureau of Anatomical Services to the public and as an advocate for the donors to the members of the LSUHSC community and affiliated institutions.
