Job Description:

Supervises and works with the Special Events and Moving Crew, which provides logistical and labor support for the moving of University Departments, assist individuals, academic departments and other University groups with logistical support for special events, programs and other activities, within a major State University, with over 30,000 students. Standard hours are 7:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday, however, extended hours and weekends may be required to meet the needs of the University.

Job Duties:

Supervises a team on the moving of University Departments, including business offices, research labs, libraries and special collections. Must have a working knowledge of handling office furnishings, computers, research equipment, lab equipment and supplies. Coordinates moves with department's faculty and staff to minimize disruption, down time and costs. Directs and oversees the loading and unloading of vehicles, material handling, and moving office furnishings and performs all the same functions as Laboring personnel involved in providing these services. -50%

Supervises a team providing labor, set-ups assembly and general logistical support for Special Events, programs and other non-routine activities. Support is provided both campus and community wide. Works with a variety of individuals, national and local organizations, state and municipal agencies. Moves and sets up tables, chairs, stages and other furnishings as necessary. Must be able to interpret and anticipate the needs and problems of the requestor and make recommendations and changes as needed. Works closely with crafts such as carpenters, electricians and telecommunications installers to ensure the success of these events. Operates stake body truck, flatbed trucks, box trucks and fork lift, to transport various materials as required for the operation of the University. On occasion may also operate smaller vehicles such as van, pickup trucks or enclosed trucks. -45%

Performs and supervises general maintenance on Special Events Furniture and Equipment. Repairs tables, risers, steps, stages, sign stands and rope stanchions using basic hand and power tools. Paints and refinishes as necessary. Is responsible for maintaining in safe operating condition, all special event furniture, moving equipment, vehicles, etc. Makes appropriate safety inspections to ensure the safe condition of all materials delivered for special management for purchase, repair or replacement of Special Events furniture, equipment, vehicles, etc . Performs minor maintenance and preventative maintenance on mechanical and motorized equipment and vehicles used in the performance of moving and material handling, such as four wheel dollies and hydraulic lifting equipment, truck and forklifts. Does oil changes, application of greases, changes hydraulic hoses. Sets up and assembles multi-sectional staging from 10" to 42" high and risers by doing the actual work or directing the efforts of laboring personnel. Inspects completed work to ensure that it is safe, functional and capable of supporting the intended personnel or activity. Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

Four years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR

Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR

Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.

Special or Physical Qualifications:

  • Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

  • This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

  • This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

  • In accordance with PS-18 this position maybe required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure.

  • This position requires the ability to lift at least 20 pounds, walk, stand, bend, ascend and descend stairs throughout the day and move furniture and or equipment of at least 20 pounds. Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.
