Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience as a laboratory technician; OR
An associate or bachelor’s degree in medical technology, nursing, clinical laboratory science, or a biological, physical, or chemical science plus one year of experience as a laboratory technician; OR
Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science plus one year of experience as a laboratory technician; OR
Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
Necessary Special Requirement:
Positions in Human Testing Laboratory environments must be licensed to practice as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician in the State of Louisiana as required by Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Personnel Law R.S. 37:1311-1329 and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.Job Specification

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
- Performs veni-puncture in keeping with standard protocol on patients to obtain blood for requested analysis.
- Interviews, screens, and performs sterile veni-puncture in keeping with standard protocol to obtain 500 ML whole blood for use in the blood bank.
- Prepares laboratory specimens such as blood, urine, stool, and sputum for diagnostic evaluation.
- Prepares feces and other materials for examination for the presence of ova and parasites.
- Prepares, embeds, cuts, stains, mounts, labels, and catalogues tissue sections.
- Prepares, stains cover slips, and catalogues cytology specimens.
- Prepares reagents, soils, and plant and animal tissues for analysis to identify pH, lime, organic matter, minor elements, soluble salts, etc.
- Operates pH meters, salt bridges, balances and colorimeters, calibrating as necessary.
- Performs microscopic examination, records, and reports test results.
