The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.


The purpose of the Park Technician Supervisor is to ensure that site buildings and adjacent grounds are maintained in a clean, orderly, and secure condition. This position trains and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel as well as collaborates with community members to train and direct the custodial work of community volunteers, such that their work adheres to agency standards.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience in building maintenance, clerical work, custodial work, food service work, or groundskeeping.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Performs inspection of all custodial duties of the staff to ensure adherence to Agency standards.

  • Trains, works with, and demonstrates proper cleaning procedures to site volunteers to ensure adherence to agency standards.
  • Schedules, plans, coordinates, and works with staff, volunteers, etc. to have the park facilities and grounds clean and ready for guests in a timely manner.
  • Maintains supply inventory at the correct levels and keeps an accurate account of supplies and materials.
  • Trains staff in proper chemical and equipment usage, proper facility preparation, proper inspection of facilities, and facility maintenance.
  • Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments, work techniques,, and documentation of performance.
  • Inspects buildings and facilities for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment, while also training staff in safe work practices.
  • Performs custodial functions as may be required to ensure that facilities are safe and sanitary, and to report repairs needed to furniture, equipment, and facilities.

Position-Specific Details:
Location: Sam Houston Jones State Park, in Lake Charles, LA
Work Schedule: State Parks are open 365 days a year. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours/week, that can include holidays and/or weekends as needed, to ensure coverage at the park.
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a Probational or Promotional appointment.
Travel: Position requires driving around the park as part of the daily shift. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty.
