About This Position:
The overall function of this position is to perform a broad range of construction and maintenance tasks using various pieces of specialized heavy and other numerated mobile equipment (as indicated below) needed to accomplish the work task of the Department. The position is located in the statewide section 42, Gang 006 of DOTD and reports directly to a Maintenance Highway Foreman 2.
The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or with minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. Work is generally performed out-of-doors in various weather and terrain conditions according to the nature of the job assignment. Work also requires that incumbent do bending, lifting or climbing.
The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs, factory and ANSI approved training and attend all appropriate continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
The incumbent is required to have experience and ability to operate large complicated pieces of equipment. Incumbent is required to possess a class A CDL w/tanker endorsement. This position is safety sensitive and requires random drug testing. Incumbent is required to travel statewide.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Job Duties:
Operates a variety of heavy specialized numerated equipment used by the department to accomplish the transportation, maintenance and construction task in a safe and efficient manner.
- Prior to equipment operation the incumbent conducts routine visual/physical safety inspection of equipment; reports problems to supervisor/appropriate personnel and/or takes necessary corrective action whenever possible. This includes performing routine maintenance and making minor repairs to equipment as needed to keep equipment in clean, good and safe working condition. Also prepares any necessary paper work for the equipment as directed.
Occasionally must make field repairs to equipment when necessary to finish a task or be able to move equipment to a new location or the shop for more repairs.
Performs other duties as directed by supervisors or higher-level personnel in order to accomplish the departments' transportation, maintenance and construction task required by the various districts on a statewide basis. Attends required training in accordance what the Department's Structured Training Program and manufacturer's' training requirements. Performs routine maintenance such as changing oil, replacing brushes, etc. Cleans and inspects assigned equipment daily. Obtains/maintains CDL (required for this position); reports CDL revocations to appropriate personnel in accordance with the Department's Commercial Driver's (CDL) License Policy (DOTD Maintenance Manual).
