The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. It is located in District 58/Unit 580, reporting to the LaSalle Parish Maintenance Office in Jena, LA. We are looking for a Mobile Equipment Operator that is self-motivated, able to perform tasks with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. As a Mobile Equipment Operator, you will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed:


  • Perform duties as directed, such as shoveling asphalt, digging footings for setting concrete forms, placing traffic control devices, delivering, loading and unloading materials and /or equipment, flagging traffic, operating power and/or hand tools etc. May perform incidental repair and construction tasks such as installation of guardrail, fencing, pipe, catch basin, and drainage structure. Keeps records ad required by supervisor, which may include, petty cash tickets, requisitions, inventory, daily work reports etc. May be required to perform a wide variety of assigned duties and tasks necessary to accomplish the overall mission of the unit or section.
  • Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator’s manual and manufacture’s recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2, or 1/Heavy.

A Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for Mobile Equipment Operator 2 and 1/Heavy.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday.
Compensation:

  • Mobile Equipment Operator 1: Starting salary is $16.06/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
  • Mobile Equipment Operator 2: Starting salary is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
  • Mobile Equipment Operator 1/Heavy: Starting salary is $21.05/hourly.
