Job Summary:
Performs basic technical and clerical work essential to the operations of the Documents and Records Office, including proofreading and word processing. Entails using a networked personal computer. Entails overtime work, particularly prior to and during legislative sessions.

Job Examples when assigned to typing:
Performs multiple technical tasks on networked personal computer requiring full concentration and attention to detail; establishes and maintains electronic files for identifying, recording, and classifying stored data; modifies existing files to accommodate new or different information; understands the legislative process of and distinguishes between the differing procedures implemented for varying versions of a Senate Bill; utilizes internal data search system and other reference materials to identify possible errors in legislative instruments; comprehends coding and formatting techniques used in legislative instruments; extracts, assembles, and merges stored information to create new documents.

The following academic/experience criteria must be met to be considered for the position:

  1. High school graduation plus two years of experience in secretarial, clerical, or office administration work.
  2. Successful completion of Senate Documents and Records typing assessment.
Substitutions available for the two-year experience requirement:
  1. Full-time training in secretarial science or office administration in a vocational-technical or business school plus one year of experience in secretarial, clerical, or office administration.
  2. A certificate of completion of a two-year secretarial science or office administration curriculum from an accredited college or university.
  3. Two years of college work that culminated in graduation in secretarial science, office administration, or a closely related field.
