Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Job Duties:
ASSISTS WITH FIELD DATA COLLECTION INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO TRAFFIC VOLUME COUNTS, INTERSECTION TURNING MOVEMENT COUNTS, TRAVEL SPEED, CURVE ADVISORY SPEED, INTERSECTION CONDITION AND OTHER FIELD TRAFFIC DATA AS REQUIRED FOR TRAFFIC OPERATIONS STUDIES. ENTER COLLECTED FIELD TRAFFIC DATA INTO APPROPRIATE WORKSHEETS OR APPLICATIONS AND GENERATE INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR TRAFFIC REPORTS AND STUDIES; COMPILES AND PRESENT DATA IN WORKABLE FORMAT.
REVIEW CRASH REPORTS AND PREPARES CRASH COLLISION DIAGRAMS USING AVAILABLE CRASH DATA LISTINGS. DRAFT SIGN AND/OR STRIPING PLAN DRAWINGS DESIGNED OR MARKED UP BY STAFF ENGINEERS. ASSISTS WITH FIELD INSPECTIONS DUTIES RELATED TO THE MANAGEMENT OF THE DISTRICT’S OUTDOOR ADVERTISING INVENTORY PROGRAMS.
UPDATES TRAFFIC SIGNAL INVENTORY (TSI) RECORDS FOR SIGNALIZED INTERSECTIONS. DRAWS DETAILED SKETCHES OF EACH INTERSECTION AS PART OF THE TSI USING COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING AND DESIGN (MICROSTATION)SHOWING THE INTERSECTION LAYOUT, TRAFFIC SIGNAL HEAD LAYOUT SIGNS, AND PAVEMENT PARKINGS. DRAFTS REMAINING TSI SHEETS USING COMPUTER SPREADSHEETS AND TABLES (EXCEL) SHOWING PHASES AND SEQUENCE, SIGNAL INDICATIONS, TIMES OF OPERATION, PHASE TIMING PARAMETERS, AND MODIFICATION AND INSPECTION RECORDS.

Appointment Type: Probational or promotional
Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). The maximum salary for the Engineering Technician 4 is $5,724.00 per month. Please refer to the 'Job Specifications' tab located at the top of the LA Careers 'Current Job Opportunities' page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.
Compensation: Salary depends on qualifications:Engineering Technician 1 - Starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 4 - Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.How To Apply:
