This is a detail opportunity open only to current permanent employees of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Minimum Qualifications

Six years of the required experience for the following minimum qualification must have been at the DCL level, supervisory level or above:

A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus ten years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR

A non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus nine years of the required specialized experience; OR

A master's degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus eight years of the required specialized experience.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Supervision of the following major programs: Rockefeller Refuge, White Lake Wetland Conservation Area, Habitat Program, Wildlife Diversity, Fur and Alligator Management Program and the Rockefeller Research Program
  • Monitor expenditure of federal grants & statutorily dedicated budgets for both game and non-game species projects
  • Serve as advisor to executive staff in the formulation of programs, projects and policies for implementation by office of wildlife priorities; including issues related to wildlife population and public use trends and habitat conditions on division coastal properties
  • Confer with federal, state and local elected and appointed officials, natural resource, engineering agency professionals to advance the goals and objectives of the agency, it’s projects and programs, particularly in the coastal zone
  • Interact with Wildlife Commissioners, various Advisory Council Members and members of the public and press regarding resources and management related matters in work area


Position-Specific Details:
This vacancy will be filled as a temporary Detail to Special Duty, and is only open to current permanent Wildlife and Fisheries employees.

This position is domiciled in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Overnight travel throughout and beyond Louisiana is required including early departure and late return to domicile and

The ability to travel in boats, airboats and off-road ATV’s is also required.
