District Recruitment for Vernon Parish:
The overall function of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment and various hand tools for the purposes of bridge repair and maintenance in a District-Wide Bridge Maintenance Unit involved in the maintenance and repair of bridges in a seven-parish area (Avoyelles, Rapides, Vernon, Grant, Natchitoches, Winn and Sabine Parishes). This position is located in the District 08/0perations/Unit720. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to able to perform duties many times without supervision or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structure training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required task.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
Operate heavy equipment, as needed.
Performs various bridge maintenance functions such as repairing guardrail and cable barrier damage, building and repairing fence, replacing decayed and broken timber members, and forming, pouring, and finishing concrete.
Must be capable of interpreting data contained in various operator's manuals to ensure the limits and capabilities of the equipment operated are not exceeded. Perform minor repairs, services, and cleans equipment in accordance with the operator manual and manufacturer's recommendations to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.
May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:
The incumbent shall possess/do the following:
Class A CDL license
Requires random drug testing.
Required to work in all types of inclement weather and conditions.
Light computer work
Must be capable of sitting, squatting, walking, bending, and climbing to access equipment and various structures.
Appointment Type: Probational/Promotional
Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday/6:30AM-5:00PM
Work Location: Leesville, LAWhile in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
