Minimum Qualifications

Job Duties:
To assist professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians in the performance of materials testing in the District 04, Laboratory. Engineering technician positions are in a career progression group (CPG) capped at Engineering Technician 4. The required minimum number of years of experience, completion of required structured/specialized training courses, continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks and satisfactory work performance are required for incumbents to progress through the CPG. This position requires a Class E Driver’s License before appointment.
The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times with or without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. This position also requires the incumbent to make minor repairs and perform necessary maintenance on equipment and vehicles used to perform this task.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
60%Actively participates in daily materials testing. This includes, but is not limited to having knowledge of all testing procedures in each lab section (soil, asphalt, aggregate, concrete, and field operations). Must be able to retrain and perform tests as needed in any/all sections of the lab. The technician must be able to use and regularly maintain any/all equipment in the lab.
20%Technician must be able to enter the testing reports into the appropriate computer program (MATT or SM Materials) and recall the information as requested.
10%May be required to perform other duties as necessary. This includes, but is not limited to field work on the drill rig, collecting roadway cores from contractors, and any other task around the lab as directed by a supervisor. May also coordinate with Area Engineer’s or Project Engineer’s for certain tasks. Technician may be required to be involved in Emergency/Disaster support.
5%Coordinates with the Project Engineer’s offices to verify 2059 project finals. Verifies sampling plans submitted by the Project Engineer’s office. Coordinates with Project Engineer’s office on the Federal Independent Assurance Program to determine the needed sampling and testing requirements.
5%Attends required training classes and receives on-the-job training in testing procedures. May also provide training or assistance to new or lower level technicians.

Compensation:
Engineering Technician 1 - The starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 4 - Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
