Duties Summary

This position is in the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority (HTA), which is administratively attached to the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT). The HTA was established by Act 156, Session Laws of Hawaii, 1998 (Chapter 201B, HRS). As the lead state entity and advocate for the tourism industry, the HTA formulates and implements short and long-range tourism policies and plans, coordinates and advises state agencies and the private sector on tourism-related activities, conducts market development-related research, establishes public informational programs, monitors complaints, and develops and implements the state’s tourism marketing and promotional plans and efforts.

The HTA Finance-Procurement Administrative Assistant serves as a staff member of the Finance-Procurement section of HTA. This position assists the HTA Budget/Fiscal Officer in performing fiscal, accounting, and procurement duties.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

A. Knowledge:

Basic principles and practices of accounting; office practices and procedures; basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications; automated accounting systems; arithmetic; business; English.

B. Skills/Abilities:

Maintain accurate fiscal accounts, make rapid and accurate arithmetic calculations; understand and apply laws, rules and regulations; prepare basic financial reports and carry out fiscal and financial assignments through written guidelines such as HTA’s policies and procedures, the Statewide Accounting System Procedure; good attention to detail; communicate effectively orally and in writing; maintain an effective working relationship with others; maintaining a multi-task oriented workload.

C. Education:

High school diploma.

D. Experience:

Two (2) years of accounting and/or administrative-related experience, which included maintaining records of various financial transactions and preparing, reviewing, and processing various accounting documents such as checks, payables, and invoices. *Experience may be used as a substitute for education, subject to review and approval by the HTA President and CEO.

Citizenship Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires that all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Other Information

This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered to be "at will," which means that you may be discharged from your employment at the prerogative of your department head or designee at any time.
