Duties Summary

Exempt, non-civil service appointment. The purpose of the Environmental Management Infrastructure Project (EMIP) is to support the implementation and ensure capacity to implement environmental recovery projects, after disasters and emergencies to protect Hawaii’s water, land and air and mitigate their impact on public health. These environmental and public health protection efforts include managing traditional environmental pollutants and hazards.

The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support services to the EMIP Assistant Administrator, organize and coordinate matters for the attention of the EMIP team, and assist with overall administration of the EMIP support functions including duties in human resources, budgeting, procurement, fiscal and grant management.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduation or equivalent may be substituted for the General Experience. Business College and/or community college certificate in secretarial science/diploma curriculum is preferred.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: One-half (1/2) year of work experience which involved performance of tasks which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling and arithmetic; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and to speak and write simply and directly.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of progressively responsible typing and/or substantive clerical work which demonstrated experience and knowledge of common office equipment and he ability to carry out procedures in clerical work systems and to perform secretarial tasks such as, but not limited to serving as telephone and walk in receptionist; creating and maintaining filing systems; making travel arrangements; independently composing correspondence from scratch; obtaining and presenting information; reviewing and finalizing outgoing correspondence for format, grammar, spelling, punctuation and typographical errors; maintaining various logs and use of computer and software applications.

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in office management.

LICENSE: Possession of a valid State of Hawaii Driver’s License is preferred.
