This position is for the Department of Human Resources Development and exempt from Civil Service.
This position is located in the Employee Claims Division in the State of Hawai‘i Department of Human Resources Development in DOWNTOWN, OAHU.
The Employee Claims Division is responsible for planning and administering the statewide workers' compensation program, claims management, return to work priority program, and the safety and accident prevention program for State Executive Branch departments and agencies, including the Legislature.

The Claims Technician position is established under the Department of Human Resources Development HR Modernization Special Project initiative to advance the state’s human resources management program in the area of employee claims management, technology integration and analytics, and process reengineering.
The role of the Claims Technician is to review, analyze, organize, and digitize claims in the new claims management system; provide technical and administrative support to the HR Modernization Claims Management project team in support of the Employee Claims Division staff to ensure the successful and smooth transition to a new modernized electronic claims management system.Minimum Qualification Requirements
- LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK REQUIREMENT: The State of Hawai‘i requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:
General Experience: One (1) year general experience in general office work and preferred experience of one (1) year of experience in assisting with workers’ compensation claims or similar disability program.
Knowledge: Functions and organization of State government; principles and practices of public administration; laws, rules, and regulations governing workers’ compensation in the State of Hawaii; policies, practices and procedures in processing workers’ compensation claims; pertinent provisions of the law, rules and regulations governing workers’ compensation and the State Personnel Systems; applicable provisions of collective bargaining contracts; law knowledge of medical terminology, treatment and causation of industrial injuries and illnesses; various kinds of disabilities and losses of bodily functions incurred as a result of disease or injury; and basic principles and practices relating to vocational rehabilitation; administrataive and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms; structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of workds, rules of composition, and grammar.
Skills/Abilities: Interpret and apply workers’ compensation rules and regulations; perform research as required; deal effectively with others; and prepare and process reports and other written documents; communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Other Information
- This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature.
