Job Description and Duties
The Program Technician (PT) in the Pre-Scan Unit is responsible for processing and reviewing the applicant fingerprint card submissions to determine whether the submitting agency has the authority to receive criminal history background checks and verify that the cards meet certain acceptance criteria and the associated fees are correct to ensure the proper processing through the Department of Justice (DOJ). The PT is responsible for the electronic scanning of criminal and applicant fingerprint cards for processing and also opens, sorts, and delivers mail to various programs within the DOJ.

Working Conditions
This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.
This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
Remote and hybrid schedules are subject to management approval. In addition, approved remote and hybrid schedules may be delayed for training purposes.

This position is located in the California Justice Information Services Division, Bureau of Criminal Information & Analysis, Records & Biometric Identification Branch, Imaging & Live Scan Program, Application & Imaging Support Section, Pre-Scan Unit.

Desirable Qualifications
- Must have the ability to process and review documentation to submitting agencies.
- Must be able to verify documents meet certain criteria and associated fees are correct.
- Must process acceptable documentation through electronic duplex scanning system.
- Have knowledge in performing electronic scanning of criminal and applicant fingerprint cards for processing by the department.
- Must be able to make handwritten corrections as needed.
- Have knowledge of how to accounts for proper fees, document shortages and surpluses, billing forms, and balances the accounting bag for delivery to the Accounting Office in the Division of Administrative Support.
- Have experience with incoming telephone calls, answering questions, or routing to appropriate unit for resolution.
- Must be able to open, sort, distribute mail to various programs with the Department and other duties as assigned.
- May be required to sit at a computer terminal while performing research and other duties up to eight hours a day.
- Must have the ability to move up to 20 pounds.
