Job Description and Duties
The Office Technician (Typing) will be directed by the Program Assistant on Various Programs at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
- Attend various meetings to take, type, and distribute minutes.
- Develop and maintain a system for filing forms and documents including electronic filing.
- Maintain tracking systems required by the program, including but not limited to Performance for Probationary Employee and annual staff Performance Appraisal.
- Complete and process various documents related to the operational function of the program, including, but not limited to, work orders and storeroom requests.
- Maintain and update all program manuals on an ongoing basis.
- Utilize hospital computer systems for entering data. Develop reports as requested by supervisor. Retrieve and route reports.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the minimum qualifications specified in the examination bulletin/classification specifications.

Working Conditions
This position requires you to work within the Secured Treatment Area (STA).
This position is currently assigned to Program III but may be assigned to other programs according to hospital need.

You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. - The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
- The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.

- Candidates must submit a valid typing certificate with a minimum speed of 40 NET Words Per Minute (WPM) that meets CALHR Requirements. Typing tests for certification must be 5 minutes in length and proctored either virtually or in person. Candidates that are current State employees in a typing classification do not need to submit a typing certificate.
- Candidates that need a proctored typing test may contact the DSH-Atascadero Employment Office at (805) 468-3384 to schedule one at our facility.

Higher degrees cannot be accepted as proof of a lower degree.
- Transcripts must include candidate's name, the name of the school, and the date the degree was conferred, if applicable, in order to be considered for this position.
- Foreign transcripts must include verification for US equivalency from an independent company.
- Please ensure that the birthdate and social security number are redacted from the transcripts.
- If you are not using education to meet the MQs, you may instead use the bypass option (when applying, select Choose/Upload for the required document and then select Bypass File).
