Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the High-Speed Rail Authority’s (Authority) Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer (Sen TE) serves as an Engineering Technical Lead. The Sen TE is responsible for providing technical oversight for the Civil Engineering Unit to support the design and construction of facilities such as train infrastructure and maintenance facilities at the Authority, a complex railroad megaproject. The Sen TE ensures that all civil systems and designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and State of California regulations including sustainability and accessibility and provides technical guidance and oversight throughout the project design and construction phases. The Sen TE represents the Authority at various meetings, with contractors, consultants, and representatives from other federal, state, regional, and local agencies. The Sen TE prepares correspondence between contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders, regarding technical engineering issues.

Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in areas of Civil Engineering design principles and their application in infrastructure projects.
- Experience in areas of design and construction engineering of civil engineering projects,
- Experience with design criteria, standard specifications and or directive drawings and technical reports and correspondence,
- Well-rounded knowledge of project development, specifications, design, construction, and maintenance techniques for engineering and construction of transportation infrastructure projects.
- Experience working on design-build, design-bid-build, and other alternative delivery processes for transportation projects.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply engineering judgment in areas of design and construction engineering and maintenance facility projects.
- Experience with design criteria, standard specifications, and/or directive drawings and technical reports and correspondence.
- Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently but with the judgement to know when to ask for assistance and guidance from a supervisor or colleague.
- Experience providing technical oversight related to transportation projects.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations applicable to public projects.
- Ability to analyze and develop solutions for difficult and technical problems.
- Experience managing risk identification, risk tracking, and risk mitigation.
- Experience managing contractors and consultants or being a team lead over a transportation project.
- Experience building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The High-Speed Rail Authority headquarters building is located in downtown Sacramento on the corner of 8th and L Street. We are located one block away from the 8th and Capitol light rail stop, as well as the 7th and Capitol light rail stop. The building is also within walking distance of DOCO, the California State Capitol Park, a farmer’s market during summer months, and Old Sacramento.
