Job Description and Duties

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-Time Office Technician (Typing) vacancy which exists in the Staff Development Center (SDC). This position reports to the Human Resources (HR) Onboarding Manager/Training Officer and may receive instructions from the Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN) and HR Director.

A significant emphasis is on customer service, dependability, exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills. The Office Technician functions as the Staff Development Center secretary and performs a variety of difficult office and clerical work in accordance with the hospital's training requirements. The Office Technician competently operates a variety office equipment, follows written and oral directions, demonstrates the ability to evaluate situations accurately and take effective action, reads and writes English at a level required for successful job performance, utilizes correct spelling and grammar in written and oral correspondence. Demonstrates exceptional customer service, and completes other duties as assigned.

This position will require a high degree of self-initiative and independence. The Office Technician performs a variety of typing assignments that include, but are not limited to generating reports, proofreading, creating class codes & sign in sheets, forms, generating compliance reports, drafting, and editing correspondence, posting schedules/calendars, and updating telephone rosters. The Office Technician records minutes of department and committee meetings, sends meeting schedule notices and reminders to members on an ongoing basis, finalizes minutes and prepares agenda for upcoming meetings, schedules staff for training, and inputs data to ensure accurate training records. Additional duties include taking inventory of supplies, order office supplies and/or training materials in a timely manner, assist and prepare print shop training orders, prepare monthly sign in sheets, submit daily attendance report to Staffing Office, distributes mail, receives and routes telephone calls, maintains record keeping and filing systems, and necessary purging.

Working Conditions

Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.

Employee will work in a climate-controlled area under artificial light, in the Staff Development Center. The incumbent must display an ability to work with staff in a team environment and understand the complexity of interacting with a multi-disciplinary team that is working through processes to produce a specific product with a demanding timeline.
