Job Description and Duties
PARK AIDE (SEASONAL) – SAN DIEGO COAST DISTRICT / TIJUANA ESTUARY SECTOR
“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. The reporting location for this position is the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, 301 Caspian Way, Imperial Beach, CA 91932. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor) and in collaboration with the Friends of the San Diego Wildlife Refuges, the Tijuana Estuary Foundation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
This Park Aide position has a primary focus on visitor center support and visitor services at the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center. This position may also support the core program areas of Interpretation and Education, Research, Stewardship and Maintenance, and Outreach. The reporting area for this position is the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve headquarters at the visitor center in Imperial Beach, but also may include some activities at Border Field State Park, and Silver Strand State Beach.
The Park Aide will focus on visitor services. The ideal candidate is patient, enjoys talking with the public, and appreciates people from a broad diversity of backgrounds and perspectives. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, and comfortable working individually as the primary point of contact with the public at the visitor center. This is a dynamic area of focus that includes some of the State’s most significant natural and cultural resources, and arguably some of the greatest conservation and access challenges found in the nation. We are looking for a candidate with a positive attitude that believes in the power of connection between community and the land, and is motivated to help deepen that connection through this work.
Must be able to work holidays, weekends and evening special events. Anticipated weekly schedule is Wednesday through Saturday but may include Sundays to be determined upon hiring. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Working Conditions
Work environment includes an office setting, using computer, telephone, and other business equipment, and includes workdays outdoors in a variety of park environments. May have moderate exposure to water, sun, dirt, dust, wind, fumes, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. Typical work activities involve frequent and prolonged periods of sitting with periods of activity including standing, squatting, walking, hiking, and loading and unloading supplies. Work involves extended telephone conversations, virtual and in-person meetings and keyboard operation. Must meet many deadlines within short timeframes. Must be flexible in task. Must work well with others. Able to lift 20Ibs.
