Job Description and Duties
- Provide direction, mentorship, and support to professional engineering and technical staff.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and positive workplace culture.
- Recruit, develop, and retain talented employees.
- Guide performance management, employee development, and workforce planning.
- Oversee investigations and studies involving hydrology, hydraulics, flood management, watershed management, and surface water resources.
- Identify emerging water-related issues affecting Northern California communities.
- Help develop solutions that balance water supply, flood protection, environmental stewardship, recreation, and public interests.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to regional leadership.
- Collaborate with Branch Managers and executive leadership to establish priorities and allocate resources.
- Act on behalf of the Region Manager during absences.
- Work directly with local governments, water agencies, tribal organizations, federal partners, and community stakeholders.
- Represent DWR at meetings, presentations, and public forums.
- Strengthen relationships that support California's water management goals.
- Oversee budgets, funding allocations, expenditures, and program delivery.
- Ensure projects and reports meet DWR standards and objectives.
- Guide the Watermaster Program and support regional water management initiatives.
- Review and provide technical guidance on planning studies, environmental documents, and water resource projects.
- Support sustainable water management, flood risk reduction, environmental protection, and watershed health throughout the region.

Department of Water Resources (DWR) was established in 1956 by the California State Legislature. We manage California’s water resources, systems, and infrastructure, including the State Water Project, in a responsible sustainable way.

- Has strong experience in water resources engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, flood management, watershed management, or related fields.
- Has experience leading and coordinating field surveys, including planning field activities, overseeing data collection, ensuring quality control, and directing field crews.
- Has experience performing contract and/or project management work
- Has Supervisory and Leadership experience and enjoys mentoring and developing staff
- Excels at building partnerships and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Can balance technical expertise with strategic leadership.
- Is passionate about public service and improving California's water future.
