Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of the Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer of the Office of TMS OPERATIONS, the incumbent is responsible to provide Transportation Management System (TMS) leadership in SHOPP project delivery, system management, systems operation, performance & reliability of an end-to-end TMS infrastructure, planning, design, construction, maintenance & operation of the district's Intelligent Transportation System facilities. This includes application & database servers, networks, telecommunications, video systems, electrical and mechanical systems that are associated with the Transportation Management Center (TMC) & Field Element Network. The TMC operates 24/7 & is the hub of a vast set of network IP sensors, radios, cameras, & electronic signs that allow TMC Operators to disseminate traffic & traveler information to the public.
Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Electrical in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer, Electrical exam. Working Conditions
Position Location - 3165 Gold Valley Dr., Rancho Cordova, CA
Normally, the incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting in a physical or remote presence. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to visit the District offices and Headquarters. The incumbent may also be required to use public transit (bus or train) or fly to Caltrans sanctioned meetings or training. Occasionally, the incumbent may be required to work outdoors to do field reviews, investigations, and monitor traffic problems, and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and/or extreme heat or cold. While in the field, the incumbent must follow safety training and regulations, be constantly alert and responsible for personal safety when working alongside the roadway.
This position requires visual and color acuity adequate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, willingness to work at odd hours, be available for day or night calls, stay abreast of current technological changes in the fields of electricity and electronics, work up to 550 feet above pavement or water, work in the midst of traffic, and have the ability to withstand working under adverse (e.g., cold, wet, windy) weather conditions.

Special Requirements
Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Electrical) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.” For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

The SOQ must specifically address the question below, no more than 2 pages maximum and in 12-point font. A resume will not be accepted in lieu of the SOQ. Candidates selected for this position must successfully pass a Department of Justice background check and the incumbent is also required to sign CHP Form 101A annually.
