Job Description and Duties
STATE PARK PEACE OFFICER (RANGER) / (PILOT) – LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DIVISION / CANNABIS WATERSHED PROTECTION PROGRAM SECTION / AVIATION UNIT / MCCLELLAN CA.
***This is a Peace Officer Position. To be eligible, you must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Department of Human Resources AND either be currently eligible or eligible for reinstatement as a PC 830.2, California State Peace Officer.
If you are not a current peace officer and in possession of a POST – Academy, Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Certificate, you are not eligible for this position.

The reporting location for this position is the Statewide Program Support Center, McClellan CA. This positon works under the supervision of the Supervising Ranger or Superintendent II.
The incumbent is responsible for Law Enforcement & Public Protection (primarily via Aircraft Patrol). This position is primarily assigned to Headquarters, but may be required to work in other park units with an emphasis on stewardship and operation of state park units with the goal of discouraging and preventing illegal cannabis cultivation, consistent with Revenue and Taxation Code 34019 (f)(2)(b).
This position requires a Basic P.O.S.T. certificate a commercial pilot certificate for single engine airplane land with instrument rating. Please provide proof of eligibility with application.
Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
Appointment to the Pilot position to be based on an interview, physical fitness and skills assessment, not seniority. Skills testing may involve proficiency evaluation or scenarios involving firearms, defensive tactics and first aid.

Working Conditions
Incumbents will be required to work in an airplane and in rugged outdoor terrain performing arduous physical work while enforcing state laws related to illegal cannabis cultivation on state park property. These sites are commonly occupied by armed suspects. These sites are often contaminated with toxic insecticides. This position may be required to work in and around helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. Extensive travel may be required for this position. Incumbents will be required to participate in a bi-annual medical surveillance program, which monitors employees for potential exposure to insecticides. Incumbent will be required to pass the SET physical agility test and firearms proficiency test annually.
